Khaligraph Jones speaks on political ambitions

Multiple award-winning Kayole-bred rapper Brian Ouko Omollo, popularly known as Khaligraph Jones, now seems bent on adding another feather to his cap.

Besides his hard-hitting songs, punchy bars and numerous awards in his closet, the rapper has revealed that he might just be looking towards a future in politics.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) on Wednesday, Khaligraph revealed that he is keeping his options open as far as politics goes.

The rapper, speaking on a panel alongside Sauti Sol band member Bien-Aime Baraza and Eric Wainaina, stated that he could seek a political seat if motivated by the people.

“I think all that depends with the times and situations. I can’t say I won’t do it. Because when I go back to Kayole and I see the reception from the people and how they treat me, then I see a possibility of wanting to take that route,” he stated.

Fellow panelists Bien and Eric however brushed off any political ambition saying they will continue making a difference through their craft.

Asked if he would ever seek a political seat, Bien said: “Never ever. I love my life, I love my wife, and I plan to live a very peaceful life and to be a politician you must lie…I don’t want to lie.”

“There are still ways of how I can impact society, not only through my craft but with the influence that I have, to bring better resources to the youth around me and to give artists a platform,” he added.

Eric Wainaina, on the other hand, said: “I don’t think artists should stop doing what we’re doing. I have no desire to sit in Parliament listening to laws, I ain’t got no time for that. I want to play gigs; I want to play shows in Nairobi, Dar, Lilongwe, everywhere. And, so, just because we’re intuitive and can see these things and speak about them, doesn’t mean that we’re the people for the job.”

The three urged rapper King Kaka, who has evoked mixed reactions online with his latest politically conscious release ‘Wajinga Nyinyi’, to stay the course remain consistent.
