BY ALY ABICH IN HOMA BAY COUNTY.
The burial of Sharon Otieno’s foetus, which had been slated for Thursday, September 13, has been postponed to Friday, September 14 upon request by the Homa Bay County Government.
The county government on Thursday asked Ms Otieno’s family to reschedule the baby’s interment, saying it needed more time to plan for the event.
The 7-month-old foetus will be laid to rest at the home of Ms Otieno’s grandparents in Magare Village, Homa Bay Constituency.
Sharon Otieno’s mother, Melida Auma Otieno, says the county government approached them and requested it be allowed more time to help in organizing the baby’s burial.
The foetus will be moved from Kirindo Hospital mortuary in Suba Sub-County early Friday for burial, scheduled for mid-morning.
Auma Otieno said Sharon Otieno, who died aged 26, will be laid to rest on a yet-to-be-announced date at her ancestral home in Magare Village.
Ms Otieno’s family lawyer, who is the Homa Bay Township MP, Peter Kaluma, said the slain Rongo University student will only be buried after her killers are arrested.
Sharon Otieno, who was abducted on September 3 in Rongo, Migori County, was found, on September 5, murdered and her body dumped at Kodera Forest in Oyugis Homa Bay County.
Three people have thus far been arrested in connection with Ms Otieno’s death.
Michael Oyamo, who is the personal assistant to Migori Governor, Okoth Obado has already been charged with murder.
Mr Obado was adversely mentioned in the killing of Ms Otieno.
The county chief has, however, come out to deny any claim linking him to the brutal murder of the university student.
