Why the boy child is posting poor performances in national exams: Woman Rep

Elgeyo-Marakwet Woman Representative Jane Kiptoo says male candidates, who sat the 2017 KCPE, performed poorly compared to their predecessors because parents are “increasingly becoming bad examples to emulate”, and “have neglected their disciplinary role.”

“Parents should not complain when the boy child posts dismal scores in the national tests. They are the ones who these pupils emulate,” said Ms Kiptoo, who spoke in Elgeyo-Marakwet on Tuesday, January 2.

Ms Kiptoo said parents are not subjecting their sons to the high discipline standards that they are putting their daughters through.

“Girls are subjected to high discipline standards at school and at home, unlike their male counterparts, who are, in many instances, pampered or neglected,” said the Woman Rep.

Ms Kiptoo also blamed fathers, who gamble, for the increased poor performance on the male child, saying they (children) tend to pick up the habit from their dads.
